Mzansi's music legends will be seen trading the stage for the stove when SABC2 launches "Simmer Down" a new lifestyle series that combines food, music and personal storytelling.
"Simmer Down" will premiere on Saturday, August 15, at 5.30pm.
The 13-part series, hosted by acclaimed cookbook author, chef and founder of the Feed My Tribe movement, Mmule Setati, offers a fresh approach to the traditional cooking show format.
Rather than focusing solely on recipes, the programme brings together celebrated South African musicians to share the meals, memories and moments that have shaped their lives.
Each episode features Setati preparing a dish inspired by her guest's personal journey, creating a relaxed setting for conversations about family, identity, culture and the emotional connections forged through food.
Over the course of the season, viewers will meet an impressive lineup of artists, including Simphiwe Dana, Bucie Nkomo, Brenda Mntambo, RJ Benjamin, Stoan Seate, Makhadzi, Phila Ndlozi, Wouter Kellerman, Zama Jobe, The Jaziel Brothers, Vicky Sampson, Thebe Lenyora and Maleh.
From childhood favourites to meals linked to pivotal life experiences, each guest reflects on the stories behind the dishes that continue to hold special meaning, highlighting South Africa's rich cultural heritage and the role food plays in bringing people together.
Blending beloved family recipes, meaningful conversations around the table, and music, "Simmer Down" aims to showcase the stories behind the people and traditions that continue to shape South African culture.
Speaking about her television hosting debut, Setati said she's incredibly excited to be hosting "Simmer Down" .
"It brings together some of the things I love most: food, music, storytelling and human connection. Both food and music have a unique way of bringing people together; they evoke memories, spark conversation and connect us to who we are and where we come from.
"What makes Simmer Down special is that we're not only sharing delicious food and meaningful conversations, but we're also paying homage to the incredible South African artists who have shaped our cultural landscape," said Setati.
Beverly Moubane, the series producer, said the programme represents years of dedication and perseverance.
"What began as an idea, fuelled by countless sleepless nights, unwavering determination and a willingness to evolve, has grown into the show audiences will soon experience. Together, Tshiamo Modisane and I have had the privilege of watching years of hard work, resilience and belief transform into something tangible and beautiful.
"Today, with immense pride, we present "Simmer Down" to viewers. It is a show made with heart, intention and an appreciation for the stories that connect us through food, music and conversation," said Moubane.
Robyn Verweij, SABC2'a acting channel head, said the series aligns with the channel's commitment to authentic local storytelling.
"Simmer Down" perfectly reflects SABC2's commitment to telling authentic South African stories that celebrate our diverse cultures and shared experiences.
"Through the universal languages of food and music, the series creates a space where viewers can connect with some of the country's most loved artists in a deeply personal way. It is uplifting, entertaining and proudly South African," said Verweij.
"Simmer Down" premieres on August 15 at 5.30pm on SABC2. Episodes will also be available on SABC Plus.
