South African music legends Mango Groove are set to return to the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden on Heritage Day, September 24, where they will headline the Sunset Music Series in a celebration of the country’s rich musical heritage.
Their return to one of Johannesburg’s most scenic outdoor venues is expected to draw fans from across generations for an afternoon of live music, dancing and family-friendly entertainment.
Known for their distinctive fusion of Afropop, marabi and kwela, Mango Groove have established themselves as one of South Africa’s most enduring musical acts.
Their catalogue has become deeply woven into the country’s cultural soundtrack, with songs that continue to resonate with audiences decades after their release.
Lead singer Claire Johnston said the group was looking forward to celebrating Heritage Day with audiences in an outdoor setting.
“There’s something incredibly special about performing outdoors, surrounded by nature and families coming together to celebrate music. Heritage Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate who we are as South Africans, and we can’t wait to share an afternoon of joy, dancing, and memories with everyone at the Walter Sisulu Gardens,” said Johnston.
Fans can expect some of Mango Groove’s best-known songs, including Special Star, Dance Some More, Moments Away and Another Country, alongside other favourites from the band’s extensive catalogue.
The group’s colourful stage production and trademark energy are expected to create a feel-good atmosphere as families and friends gather at the gardens with picnic blankets and baskets for an afternoon of entertainment against the venue’s scenic natural backdrop.
Gates open at 1pm, with performances scheduled to run until 5pm.
