For Devanshii Pillay, better known simply as Devanshii, social media success happened faster than he ever imagined.

In just four months, the Durban content creator has built a community of more than 500,000 followers on TikTok while attracting almost 360,000 followers on Facebook.

His comedy videos, many of which feature his close friend Nqubeko Chonco, have become a favourite among South Africans who enjoy humour rooted in everyday life and isiZulu culture.

Their chemistry on screen has turned the pair into one of the country's most recognisable content duos.

"I am famously known through my partnership with Nqubeko Chonco. I was motivated by my friends to start creating content, and it has only been four months. Reaching 500,000 followers on TikTok and almost 360,000 on Facebook has been amazing," he said.

Devanshii's content stands out because it celebrates language and culture in a way that feels natural. From learning isiZulu to singing Maskandi songs and sharing funny moments with Chonco, his videos have resonated with audiences from different backgrounds.

Away from social media, Devanshii is focused on his education. He completed a Diploma in Packaging Technology through the Institute of Packaging South Africa and is currently studying towards a degree in Environmental Studies at the University of KwaZulu Natal.

Balancing studies with a fast-growing online career has taught him that opportunities often arrive when they are least expected.

"Do not think your life cannot change at any given time. You can walk through doors that you think are closed. Networking with others opens doors and helps integrate cultures and diversity. That builds a stronger Rainbow Nation both personally and professionally," he said.

As his following continues to grow, Devanshii hopes that people understand that content creation is not always as glamorous as it appears online.

"One of the biggest misconceptions is that content creators are celebrities and that we make a lot of money. We are ordinary people, and our income is not fixed," he explained.

Despite those realities, he remains committed to turning his passion into a full-time career. His ambitions stretch beyond social media, with his sights set on reality television and working with brands across the world.

"I am looking forward to submitting my auditions for ‘Big Brother Mzansi’ 2027. I also want to take up content creation full time and work with brands both locally and internationally."

His goals are personal as well as professional. Buying his first car is high on the list, but he also wants to leave a lasting impact through laughter.

"My biggest goal is to buy my first car, go on ‘Big Brother Mzansi' and change people's lives through my content. If I can make people laugh and help them forget their problems for a while, then I have achieved something. My audience can sit back, buckle their seat belts and watch this space because there is more to come."

Before looking ahead, Devanshii made sure to recognise the person who has been beside him throughout his journey.

"I want to thank my friend Nqubeko for always making time for me and for the content we create together. Our videos are what many people know us for."
